ABOUT ME
I was appointed as Honorary Editor of the Coat of Arms in succession to Clive Cheesman, Richmond Herald and Peter O’Donoghue, York Herald, in September 2017, having previously served as a council member of the Heraldry Society from 2006 to 2016, of which I was Vice Chairman from 2011-13, and Chairman from 2013-15. I began my medical career in General Practice, and subsequently returned to hospital medicine in order to undergo further higher medical training. As a medical researcher I published 23 peer reviewed scientific papers; plus seven book chapters in five medical textbooks, while also working as a full time consultant physician, and teaching, as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. Many historical papers were also researched and published during the same period. I achieved my long held career aim of retiring from medicine in 2017, in order to complete my first heraldry book, and focus on heraldic and genealogical research, writing and lecturing. Still a member of the Cambridge University Heraldic & Genealogical Society, I served on its council from 1982-87, as Secretary from 1983-4, was President from 1984-5, and elected as a Vice President in 2020. I have been a member of the Court of Trustees of the Institute of Heraldic & Genealogical Studies in Canterbury since 2005, and became its Chairman in 2019.
